IRCTC now offers a comprehensive travel insurance policy for train passengers, providing significant coverage of up to ₹10 lakh with an affordable premium of just 45 paise per passenger. Here’s everything you need to know about this policy:

Overview of IRCTC Travel Insurance

  1. Eligibility and Applicability:
    • This travel insurance is exclusively available to Indian citizens booking train e-tickets through the IRCTC website. It is not available for foreign travelers or tickets booked via agents or other travel platforms.
    • If opted for, the insurance applies to all passengers listed under a single PNR number.
    • Children under 5 years without a reserved seat are not covered by the policy. However, children aged 5 to 11 are eligible whether or not they have a reserved berth.
  2. Coverage Details: IRCTC’s travel insurance provides financial assistance across various scenarios involving accidental injuries or unexpected events. Coverage includes:
    • Transportation of Mortal Remains: ₹10,000 to cover costs associated with transporting mortal remains after a train accident or untoward incident.
    • Hospitalization Expenses for Injuries: Up to ₹2 lakh to cover medical expenses for injuries sustained during the journey.
    • Permanent Partial Disability: 75% of the insured amount, with a maximum payout of ₹7.5 lakh in case of partial permanent disability.
    • Permanent Total Disability: 100% of the insured amount, providing a full payout of ₹10 lakh if an accident results in total permanent disability.
    • Death: In the event of death, the entire insured amount of ₹10 lakh is paid to the designated nominee.
  3. How the Policy Works:
    • The travel insurance option is offered during the e-ticket booking process on IRCTC’s website. IRCTC facilitates the connection with the insurance provider but holds no responsibility for policy claims or settlements.
    • Once the insurance is selected, all passengers under the PNR are automatically covered by the policy.
  4. Claim and Policy Information:
    • After booking, passengers receive policy details via SMS and email directly from the insurance company. The policy number can also be accessed through the IRCTC ticket history page.
    • Passengers are encouraged to submit nominee details on the insurance provider’s website to simplify claim settlements. If no nominee information is provided, claims will be settled with legal heirs if required.

This optional travel insurance from IRCTC provides valuable coverage for a range of unforeseen events, offering peace of mind and financial security throughout your journey.

Disclaimer: IRCTC only facilitates the purchase of travel insurance and assumes no responsibility for claims or liabilities.
